Costs and planningWebsites and apps

What does a website cost in India in 2026?

Website prices in India range from a few thousand rupees to several lakhs. Here is what actually drives the number, what you pay every year, and the questions to ask before you hire anyone.

Ask five agencies what a website costs and you will get five answers, from a few thousand rupees to several lakhs. That spread is not random. It comes from a handful of decisions, and once you know them you can tell a fair quote from a bad one.

What decides the price

1. What the site has to do

A five-page site that explains your business and collects enquiries is the simplest job. Booking, payments, member logins, a product catalogue or an integration with your CRM each add design, building and testing time. Write down what a visitor must be able to do on your site before you ask for quotes; it is the single biggest factor.

2. Template or custom design

A good template, adapted to your brand, is fast and affordable. A custom design is drawn for your business and your customers, and costs more because a designer works on it before any code is written. Neither is wrong. A clinic that needs to look trustworthy and load fast on a phone usually does well with a template done properly; a brand that competes on look and feel usually needs custom work.

3. Who writes the words and takes the photos

Content is the part that delays most website projects. If you supply the text and photos, the price is lower. If the agency writes copy, shoots photos or translates into Hindi or another language, that is extra work and should be listed separately in the quote.

4. The platform

WordPress and Shopify let your team edit pages and products without a developer. Custom-built sites, for example with Next.js, are faster and more flexible but changes usually go through a developer. Ask which one is being proposed and why.

5. SEO from day one

A site that is fast, works well on phones, has proper page titles and is listed on Google Business Profile will be found more easily. Some quotes include this; some leave it out to look cheaper.

What you pay every year

The build is a one-time cost. These come back every year, so include them in your budget:

  • Domain name. A .in or .com domain usually costs from a few hundred to around a thousand rupees a year. Make sure it is registered in your name.
  • Hosting. From a few thousand rupees a year for a simple site, more for stores and apps with a lot of traffic.
  • Maintenance. Updates, backups, security fixes and small content changes. Agencies often offer a monthly plan; ask exactly what it covers.
  • Payment gateway charges. If you sell online, gateways such as Razorpay charge a percentage of each payment. Check their current pricing page.
  • GST. Web development services attract GST, so a quote of ₹50,000 plus GST at 18% means ₹59,000 leaves your account. Ask whether a quote includes GST.

What we charge

In India, a business website with us starts at ₹25,000 and an online store at ₹40,000. Where your project lands in the range depends on the five points above, and our pricing page lists the full ranges.

Every proposal we send has a fixed price for a fixed scope, so the number does not change halfway through.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  1. Will the domain, hosting account and code be in my name?
  2. Is the price fixed, and what exactly does it include?
  3. How many rounds of design changes are included?
  4. When do I pay, and for what? Paying per milestone protects both sides.
  5. What happens if something breaks after launch?
  6. Can I see a site you have built that is live today?

Red flags

  • The agency registers the domain in its own name.
  • You cannot get access to the code or hosting.
  • The quote is a single number with no list of what is included.
  • Full payment is asked for upfront.
  • There is no clear answer about who fixes problems after launch.

The short version

Decide what the site must do, decide who provides the content, and budget for the yearly costs, not just the build. Then compare quotes that list the same things.
